Committed to providing clean and efficient energy, coupled with the devastating effects of Super Storm Sandy in 2012, a leading utility undertook replacing Units at one of their New Jersey facilities.

This is a major project valued at over $600 million with a schedule running from 2014 through the Summer of 2018.

Unit 7 will bring 540 MWs of highly-efficient generating capacity to New Jersey. The plant will run primarily on clean, efficient natural gas, but can also run on ultra-low-sulfur distillate fuel oil as a back-up fuel, ensuring exceptional dependability. The new plant will be equipped with state-of-the-art emissions control technology providing New Jersey and the region with reliable and environmentally responsible energy.

RCM was awarded the conceptual engineering and design that included participating in the permitting and licensing approval protocol. Continuing on as the Owner’s Engineer for the construction phase, RCM has been providing services that include document control, construction permitting and regulatory support, construction engineering support and procurement support.

RCM value delivered in connection with this project entailed:

  • As an alliance partner, RCM had overall familiarity with the owner’s generating facilities’ assets, procedures and processes.
  • Depth of engineering associated with the surge arrestors, line disconnects, and pothead structures to which the generation interconnection line connects.
  • Continuity from conceptual design through to construction and start up.
  • Interconnection with the owner’s transmission system via a new breaker position at their 230kV substation.
  • Managed interconnects and upgrades for two gas suppliers.
